The opponents of PR and the STV always argue about PR systems working against strong stable governments. Setting aside the debate on the validity of this per se, if you look at the dying years of both the Major and Brown governments where unelected factions and individuals weakened thier own government through intrigue, blackmail and outright opposition to its operation, I think it more than arguable that the current voting system has in fact created this situation.
