Gordon Brown is a walking ad hominem attack

I have just watched Gordon Brown's interview with Gary Gibbon on Channel 4 News with incredulity.

He claimed that he never done personal criticism of opponents. I audibly gasped.

Gordon Brown has built his career and climbed the greasy pole by using smear and innuendo against his opponents. It might not have been him directly but his accolytes have been at it for years, nay decades.

The Smeargate scandal exposed the dark heart of Brown's operation and although they (eventually) got rid of Damian McBride he is just a symptom of the problem. The problem is Brown himself.

I asked just after Smeargate whether Gordon Brown could even claim to legitimately be Prime Minister any more because others were starting to come out of the woodwork accusing Brown's henchman of having smeared them. I bet Stephen Byers, Alan Milburn, Frank Field and countless others would be able to explain how Brown's operations really work.

To hear him try to claim to be holier than thou in this way is abdolutely sickening.

  1. In my experience, the Labour Party has always had a nasty, vicious streak. It's very factionalised - and tribal within those factions. Brown's and Blair's people have been in a war of attrition for the better part of 15 years now.

Smeargate was bad, Brown reportedly slagging off Charles Clarke tonight understandable to be honest.

The Government is on its last legs, no doubt about that, but, sadly, I don't see what's going on as untypical in my lifetime's experience of watching Labour from a distance.

  2. Indeed. My family were all staunch Labour supporters when I was growing up and it saddens me to see what the party has become.

It seems to embody the phrase "The end justifies the means" but they have gone so far down this road that they have no idea what they stand for any more. So they lie, smear and do just about anything to retain power without a clue what to do with that power.

The stench of decay is almost overpowering, worse in my opinion than that of Major's last months.

  3. The Labour Party I campaigned against in the 90s were absolutely vile. Make Brown and Blair look like cuddly teddy bears.

The CH4 interview (on a train) just showed Brown is in a cycle of telling bigger and bigger lies. Tragic and funny at the same time.
