BBC Question Time Live Chat - 7th April 2010 - #bbcqt

What do you think of the new blog design?

#bbcqt is on a Wednesday this week and with a later start than normal (10:55pm), hence the Live Chat starts here at 10:50pm.

The panel includes Foreign Secretary David Miliband, shadow work and pensions secretary Theresa May, the former leader of the Liberal Democrats Sir Menzies Campbell, the historian Simon Schama and Daily Telegraph columnist Janet Daley.

It's from Woking this week about 10 miles from where I live and yes, I did apply for tickets but was unsuccessful. However I do know that Woking Lib Dem Lisa Harding who blogs as Spiderplant is in the audience and as it's pre-recorded will likely be home by the time it starts. I wonder if she'll drop by...

BBC Question Time Live Chat - 4th March 2010 - #bbcqt

No election count for me to go to this week so I will be back in the host's chair for the #bbcqt Live Chat on this blog starting at 10:30pm. Thanks again to @El_Cuervo for standing in last week.

Coming from Canary Wharf, the panel are Transport Secretary Lord Adonis, London Mayor Boris Johnson, the Liberal Democrat peer Shirley Williams, the broadcaster Carol Vorderman and novelist Will Self.

Could be quite a good edition. Adonis particularly usually talks good sense and it's always good fun to see Will Self sneeringly cutting people down to size. Also, I hope one of the members of the audience asks Vorderman about shilling for rip-off loan "consolidation" companies. What are the chances?

BBC Question Time Live Chat - 25th February 2010 - #bbcqt

It's #bbcqt day again and as usual the Live Chat on this blog will start tonight at 10:30pm.

The panel includes the senior Labour politician Peter Hain MP, the shadow defence secretary Dr Liam Fox MP, the Plaid Cymru leader Elfyn Llwyd MP, UKIP's Nigel Farage MEP and the journalist and broadcaster Janet Street Porter.

So for the second time in recent months there has been a 4 week period when on only 1 week was there a Lib Dem on the panel. This has quite rightly annoyed lots of Lib Dem bloggers. See here for Mark Pack's take on it on LDV which includes links to several of the other blogs to have raised this issue. I have called the BBC duty log myself.

Anyway, this week I will be at the count for my by-election in Owlsmoor during the programme so cannot host the chat myself but never fear, Lib Dem blogger Matt Raven (known on Twitter as @El_Cuervo) has very kindly agreed to step in and take on hosting duties.

Thursday, 4 February 2010

BBC Question Time Live Chat - 4th February 2010 - #bbcqt

It's #bbcqt day and as usual the Live Chat on this blog will start tonight at 10:30pm.

The panel are the former Lord Chancellor Lord Falconer, the shadow secretary of state for work and pensions Theresa May MP, the former Labour and now Independent MP Clare Short, the Respect MP George Galloway and the Daily Mail columnist Melanie Phillips (*shudders*). So no Lib Dem (again) and 3 current or former Labour parliamentarians. Nice.

Given the release of the Legg report today, expect fireworks if it's anything like the last expenses themed edition.

BBC Question Time Live Chat - 26th November 2009 - #bbcqt

It's #bbcqt day again and as usual the Live Chat on this blog will start tonight at 10:30pm.

For the second time in four weeks the panel will not include a Lib Dem. This has caused someconsternation in the Lib Dem blogosphere, especially as Jo Swinson was dropped at 48 hours notice and in the week that the Iraq Inquiry has started (of course the Lib Dems were the only one of the three largest parties to oppose the war). Caron has commented on it and Liberal Revolution had a couple of posts (here and here) as well.

The panel will however include the Labour peer Lord Falconer, the former shadow home secretary David Davis, the Deputy First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon, the columnist Melanie Phillips and the comedian Marcus Brigstocke.

Join us from 10:30pm below.

Thursday, 19 November 2009

And for anyone wondering where I disappeared to half way through last week's chat, sorry abut that but I had a dog/carrot emergency to attend to! Luckily, Dazmando was hosting it anyway.

BBC Question Time Live Chat - 5th November 2009 - #bbcqt

Remember, remember that it's #bbcqt day again and as usual the Live Chat on this blog will start tonight at 10:30pm.

It's in Reading tonight about 15 miles from where I live but they didn't invite me on. Still at least that means I can host the chat!

The panel will include the Welsh Secretary Peter Hain MP, the shadow environment secretary Nick Herbert MP, the former Metropolitan Police commissioner Sir Ian Blair, the former MEP and broadcaster Robert Kilroy-Silk and the comedian Natalie Haynes. You might notice that there are no Lib Dems on the panel. Hmmm.

Liberal Democrat Voice also usually have an open thread for BBC Question Time which is posted just before the start of the programme.

It's Thursday which of course means that it's #bbcqt day again and as usual the Live Chat on this blog will start tonight at 10:30pm.

Coming from Llandudno, the panel will include the former home secretary Jacqui Smith MP (wonder what she'll have to say about Professor David Nutt's latest comments about drugs), shadow Welsh secretary Cheryl Gillan MP, the leader of the Welsh Liberal Democrats Lembit Opik MP (hurrah, Lembit!), Plaid Cymru's Elfyn Llwyd and the broadcaster John Sergeant (always good value).

Liberal Democrat Voice also always have an open thread for BBC Question Time which is usually posted just before the start of the programme.

I've tried making the height of the chat window a bit bigger tonight. Let me know if this causes problems.

BBC Question Time Live Chat - 22nd October 2009 - #bbcqt

It's Thursday which of course means that it's #bbcqt day again and as usual the Live Chat on this blog will start tonight at 10:30pm.

This week's show is from London and has been the subject of controversy as one of the panelists is Nick Griffin, the leader of the BNP (British National Party) who was recently elected as an MEP. There have been protests outside BBC TV centre about this and my namesake, the Director General of the BBC has had to step in to back Question Time's decision to allow him on.

The panel will also include the Justice Secretary Jack Straw MP, the Conservative spokeswoman for community cohesion Baroness Warsi, the Liberal Democrat home affairs spokesman Chris Huhne MP and the playwright and author Bonnie Greer.

Liberal Democrat Voice also always have an open thread for BBC Question Time which is usually posted just before the start of the programme.
