If Samantha Cameron once voted Labour that is a good thing

The Mail on Sunday has splashed today with the "shock horror" story that David Cameron's wife Samantha might once have voted Labour. This is according to Ed Vaizey.

Frankly, who gives a flying fig? If anything, that fact that David Cameron's wife might have had political views of her own in the past and maybe even now is actually a good thing. Far better than he was married to someone who was brought up in a family who had voted Tory for the last 10 generations. How dreary would that be?

This is froth of the most insipid kind. Just like with Sally Bercow, spouses of senior political figures are entitled to their own views. It should not surprise us if they are not exactly the same as their other halves.
